Left Over

After everything else, this is what’s Left.* This, such as it is, is the Song of the Month project for 2008. This is what happens when you have a tiny shred of talent, a little free time, and some fun playing some favorite songs. That’s all it’s supposed to be.
These songs were recorded roughly, wobbly and hastily in various bedrooms in 2007 and 2008. Some were actually recorded in a garage or two. At least one was recorded in a rainstorm. Another during some construction outside. The sound quality is what you might expect. Everything was recorded in one take, directly into the MacBook. GarageBand and iTunes handled the rest. It was all just done for fun, so don’t be upset if I butchered a favorite song of yours.
You’re welcome to grab the sample songs or get the zip of the whole thing. If you want a fancy jewel case insert, you can always just make a playlist in iTunes, use the print feature, choose the mosaic setting. Or you could download the pdfs of the insert, but they may print out a tiny bit smaller than they should, at least they did for me. This is a green release--no trees killed for envelopes, no fossil fuels burned shipping it to you. Clicky-click and enjoy!
Cheers!

Notes on this mess:
1. I recorded a whole version of Love Is A Sign, but didn’t like it, so I just used the first part as a sort of overture.
2. Mother Church was done shortly after I put out the Robyn covers freebie dealie last year. Click on “Which of Us is Me?” in the right sidebar.
3. A Girl In Port is a favorite Okkervil River song. This one I worked a tiny bit harder on.
4. I liked the Jenny Lewis cover of Handle With Care and decided to play it. Sort of.
5. It’s Not My Birthday is a great old TMBG song. This is the one I did in the garage, in the rain.
6. There’s no crashing pianos at the end of this Day In The Life, but lots of minor chords, as it should be. Roscoe the dog may have been on the bed with me for this one.
7. While I was job hunting in 2007 Career Opportunities was my theme song.
8. You Woke Up My Neighborhood was done when I was in very Billy Bragg mood in early 2008. I was excited for his upcoming album, which ended up totally disappointing me. I did consider going to his show and getting my Burns signed by him though. But I didn’t.
9. Vibrating is a great almost-every-line-rhyming Robyn song.
10. In the Aeroplane is the official indie campfire singalong.
11. The Ballad of How Cool the Avett Brothers are is more like it.
12. On the menu today: Another version of Tonight.
13. Cool closer Heaven finishes up the set. From Spring 2008.
These are pretty neat, Cpl. I tried the samples, and went for the whole enchilada.
